The Arctic Portal project is a non-profit establishment that was initiated as an International Polar Year project (IPY project 388), lead by Iceland’s Senior Arctic Official in consultation and co-operation with other members of the Arctic Council and its Working Groups and various other partners. Initially the Arctic Portal was intended to service the needs of the Arctic Council and its working groups. It is already functioning as such, but is looking to and is expand its functions The main goal of the Arctic Portal is to provide a comprehensive gateway to the Arctic on the Internet in order to increases co-operation between both public and private stakeholders across the Arctic and grant exposure to Arctic related matters. This is done by providing free access to all the information presented on the webpage, By doing so we hope to contribute to the preservation of Arctic cultures, create an open access to the latest scientific information, increase the interconnectivity of the Arctic and enhance and simplify cooperation within the arctic The initiative has received wide support among parties that are involved with Arctic and Nordic matters, professionals, institutions and politicians. The Arctic portal has gained many valuable partners, supporters and coworkers and as an example of this the Arctic Portal and the University of the Arctic have good collaboration and will work together in various projects in the future to further educational opportunities for the North by the North. In order to be able to carry out further development of the Arctic Portal as a venue for open access of information, further assistance needs to be sought and all contributions small or large are highly appreciated, weather it would be in the form of contributing work, funds or other resources - every donation helps. Best wishes, The Arctic Portal Team
